SGT. HOWARD BENNETT
OF HARTWICK, IS
MISSING OVER ITALY

Sergeant Howard Bennett, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Bennett, living near Hartwick, has been missing in action over Italy since April 12, according to a telegram from the War Department received Monday by his parents. His wife, the former Virginia Ford of Brooklyn, is now employed in Cedar Rapids.

A graduate of Hartwick high school Bennett was well-known as a basketball star. He entered the service in April of 1943, took his basic training at Kearns, Utah, attended an armored school at Lowery Field, Denver, and graduated from a gunnery school at Harlington, Texas, Nov. 15, 1943. Before going overseas he attended an instructors school at Fort Myers, Fla.
