SIMPSON-SCHMIDT WEDDING
IN ST. MARY'S CHURCH

An early spring wedding took place in St. Mary's Catholic church in Grinnell on Saturday, March 14, when Miss Barbara Anne Simpson and Joseph Dale Schmidt, both of Grinnell, recited wedding vows at ten-thirty in the morning before an altar lighted with burning tapers set in candelabra and decorated with two baskets of white stock and pink gladioli.

Rev. Leo Kuebrich officiated at the double-ring ceremony. Sacred nuptial music was played on the organ by John Penne. Miss Wilma Schmitz sang "Ave Maria."

Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Simpson, and Mrs. Frances Schmidt and the late George Schmidt, all of Grinnell.

Mrs. James Simpson of Eldon and Mrs. Patty Miller of Grinnell, attended the bride. Bestman was James Schmidt, of Grinnell, brother of the groom. Ushers were John Schmidt, Willard Emmert and Tom Simpson, all of Grinnell.

Mrs. Simpson wore a ballerina length dress of pink lace, net and satin. Her headband was made of white daisies, and her bouquet was composed of white daisies interspersed with green tuff and green ribbon. Miss Miller wore a ballerina dress of green lace, net and satin. Her headband was also of white daisies, and white daisy bouquet was interspersed with touches of pink.

The bride wore a gown of satin and lace. The long molded bodice of lace came to points into the bouffant skirt. The skirt was floor length. Neckline of the gown was softly scalloped. She wore a double starnd of pearls, a gift from her husband. A tiara of pearls held the fingertip veil in place. The bridal bouquet was an arrangement of white chrysanthemums.

The bride's mother selected a blue silk flowered dress, and the groom's mother selected a pink lace dress. Mrs. Simpson wore white mums and Mrs. Schmidt wore pink roses.

Two hundred guests were served at the wedding reception held in the church parlors. Pink flowers and a miniature bride and groom adorned the all-white four tiered wedding cake. Hostess for the reception was Mrs. Ray Ziegenmeyer.

Pouring for guests were Miss (Unreadable) Hays and at the punch bowl were Misses Sandy Clifton and Mary White. Aunts of the groom, Mrs. Kenneth Lavender and Mrs. Floyd Clark, cut the wedding cake.

Guests registering in the guest book, handled by Mrs. Lyle Brown, also viewed gifts at the gift table, presided over by Misses Connie Johnson, Nancy Foster and Joyce Tharp. Others assisting were Misses Karen Dodson, Karen Rolfing and Sandy Allbee.

For traveling on a wedding trip which took the couple to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Mrs. Schmidt wore a black sheath dress with matching jacket, and a corsage taken from her wedding bouquet.

The couple is now residing at 1321 West Street in Grinnell. Both are graduates of Grinnell high school.

Guests came from Grinnell, Newton, Des Moines, Spencer, Mason City. Waterloo, Eldon, Story City, Iowa City, Cedar Falls, Malcom, Kellogg, and Gilman, Iowa, and St. Paul, Minnesota.
