STANLEY VOGEL KILLED INSTANTLY
AS TRUCK, AUTO HIT ON CITY STREET

Stanley V. Vogel, 25, of Grinnell, was killed instantly Saturday afternoon when the truck he was operating collided with an automobile driven by another Grinnellian, William Frank Dubisar, 36.

Vogel's death was the fifth traffic fatality recorded in Poweshiek county this year.

FIRST SINCE 1960

It also marked the first time in more than two years that a traffic death had occurred in Grinnell, the last taking place in September of 1960 when Larry Deal died in a car-motorcycle collision.

Saturday's fatal crash occurred at about 3 p.m. at the corner of Hamilton Ave. and Main St.

Dubisar was driving north on Main in a 1955 Ford and Vogel, a routeman for the Brooklyn Cooperative Creamery, was headed west on Hamilton. Vogel apparently made a hard right turn in an unsuccessful attempt to avoid collision.

Although there were eyewitnesses to the accident, they were unable to give Grinnell police an exact account of what happened. Upon collision, Vogel was apparently thrown from the truck cab to the pavement. The truck then rolled over on its side, with a portion of the frame coming to rest across his legs.

HIT TREE

Dubisar's car veered off the truck and smashed head-on into a tree. Both vehicles came to rest on the northwest corner of the intersection.

Dubisar was rushed to a local hospital for treatment, but apparently did not receive serious injuries. He was treated for a sprained back and multiple cuts and bruises.

FACES CHARGES

Grinnell police indicated that charges will be filed against Dubisar but did not report the exact charge.

Damages to the truck were estimated at $1,200 and the Dubisar auto was a complete loss.
