A TRIBUTE TO
MARY LOMBARD

In the passing of Miss Mary Lombard earth has become poorer and heaven richer. She was a living example of who whose chief joy in life was in service. Always modest and unassuming, she was not without force, and exerted a positive influence, wherever she lived.

For sixteen years she made her home with Mrs. J.B. Grinnell. This was a center from which radiated light and interest in every good work. Miss Lombard was always ready to do what she could to forward all church and community interests. She was devoted to children, and in her Sunday School class of boys and in the children's Missionary Society called the Busy Bees, she did much to build up character, and interest the boys and girls in the best things in life.

Who knows how widely her influence may extend through these channels?

"How far that little candle throws his beams."

Since Mrs. Grinnell's death and the breaking up of that home, Miss Lombard has lived with cousins in Pasadena. One by one the family has been growing smaller until only one, Mrs. Camilla Hamlin, was left. In a card received at Christmas from Miss Lombard she writes: "Only my cousin Mrs. Hamlin, the housekeeper, and myself are left. How we miss those who are gone, in this large beautiful house." Now one more has been taken; and the home will be lonelier than ever.

The tender heart, the ready sympathy, the loving ministrations will be known no longer here; but we cannot conceive of that unselfish spirit being happy, even in heaven, unless she is helping others. In the picture of the Heavenly City in Revelation, we are told, "The throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it and His servants shall serve Him."

We can almost hear the Master say to her: "Well done, thou good and faithful servant. Thou hast been faithful over a few things. I will make thee ruler over many things. Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord."

Mrs. Chas. Noble.
