WOMAN KILLED IN
HEAD-ON CRASH
NEAR NEW SHARON

Beth Ann Jones, 36, Oskaloosa, formerly of Montezuma, was killed Thursday morning in a head-on collision 1.5 miles south of New Sharon on Highway 63.

According to the Mahaska County Sheriff's Office, Jones, driving a rented 1996 Ford Aspire, was traveling southbound on Highway 63 when she drove her vehicle left of center. Jones' vehicle struck a National By-Products truck, driven by Darrell Wayne Klein, 48, Oskaloosa, which was travelling northbound on Highway 63. Jones' vehicle struck the guard rail on the west side of the road, while the National By-Products truck struck the guard rail on the east side.

Hillary Jones, 9, a passenger in the Jones vehicle, was transported to Mahaska County Hospital by New Sharon Fire and Ambulance.

Damage to the vehicle Jones was driving was estimated at $15,000, while damage to the National By-Products truck was estimated at $20,000. About $1,000 damage to the guard rails, owned by the Iowa Department of Transportation, was also reported.
