MRS. VAN TOMME KILLED IN AUTO
ACCIDENT IN IOWA COUNTY FRIDAY

A Brooklyn woman, Mrs. Clemance Van Tomme, 80, died Friday, Dec. 23, about 10:30 p.m. in an Iowa City hospital from injuries she received in a one-car accident in Iowa County. Mrs. Van Tomme was a passenger in the car driven by August Cleppe, 80, of Brooklyn.

They were traveling east on Highway 6 and attempted to turn north on Highway 21 to go to Belle Plaine when lights blinded Mr. Cleppe. He lost control and the car overturned. They were taken to an Iowa City hospital by a Victor ambulance. Mr. Cleppe was treated for lacerations and bruises.

The accident occurred about 5:30 p.m. It was investigated by Highway Patrolmen Timothy Driscoll and Charles Hooper.

Funeral services for Mrs. Van Tomme were held Monday morning at St. Patrick's Catholic church, Brooklyn, with the Rev. John Kennedy officiating. Burial was in Calvary cemetery at Brooklyn.

She is survived by her son, Rene Van Tomme of Montezuma; two daughters, Laura Lacaeyse of Brooklyn and Mrs. Mary Goodrich of Marengo; ten grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and a sister in Belgium.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one grandson, a brother and a sister.
