Mr. and Mrs. Lippincott
Observe 60th Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Lippincott observed their 60th wedding anniversary last Wednesday, June 23, at their home on Broadway. About 60 persons called on them during the afternoon and evening to offer congratulations. The home was decorated with garden flowers and several cakes, all presents, added to the occasion. Ice cream and cake were served to all of the callers. Mrs. Glen Smith, Grinnell, Mrs. Bever and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Lippincott, all sent decorated cakes.

The seven children were all present. These include Ray, Jim, Homer and Mrs. Myrtle Byers all of Brooklyn and Mrs. Grace Caughey of Grinnell and Mrs. Lena Zesiger of Moscow. There are 28 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. One group represented four generations. These included Mrs. Wm. Lippincott, Mrs. Lena Zesiger, Mrs. Helen Birkhofer and Arlene Birkhofer, the latter three of Moscow. For the past 31 years, Mr. and Mrs. Lippincott have been residents of Brooklyn.

They were married at Indianola, Iowa, June 23, 1877. They moved at once to Missouri where Mr. Lippincott's people lived at that time. From Missouri they went to Cedar county where they lived until 1906, at which time they came to this county.

Wm. Lippincott was born in Ohio, in 1855. His parents had come to Iowa in 1853 and settled near the Amanas. In a short time they sold out to the German colonies and were living temporarily in Iowa city. In 1855 his mother returned to visit her parents in Ohio and here he was born. When he was 5 weeks old she came by train to Rock Island in December. Finding the river frozen solid so the ferry could not run (there were no bridges) the passengers got off the train and walked across on the ice. They returned to the train on this side and came to Downey where the railroad ended. Here they boarded a stage coach and Mrs. Lippincott came to Iowa City. The family soon moved to Cedar county. Wm. was one of the eleven children of whom five are living.

They lived in Cedar county near Cedar Bluff until 1872 when they went to Kansas. Several years later they came to Warren county, Iowa, and in 1877 Wm. was married here.

Mrs. Lippincott is a native of McDonald (McDonough) county, Illinois, coming with her parents to Warren county, Iowa, a few years before her marriage. Her family moved to Missouri about the time of her marriage and the young couple went there with them.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Lippincott enjoy good health for their years.

They observed their fiftieth anniversary in a similar way, receiving their friends throughout the day. At that time John Goff baked them a handsome cake which Mrs. Lippincott still cherishes. It was just too pretty to eat.

Many friends congratulate them on this unusual anniversary and wish them many years of health and happiness.
