The Grinnell (IA) Herald
July 5, 1901

--The people of this community were greatly shocked yesterday afternoon on learning that J.W. Kendall, postal clerk on the Iowa Central had been killed in a railway accident at Geneva. The accident was occasioned by the breaking of irons about the engine's tender, which caused the tender to leave the track. The mail car and baggage car were thrown from the track and broken into kindling wood, and Mr. Kendall and his assistant, Mr. McKinney, of Oskaloosa, were killed. C.B. Kendall and S.S. Kendall went to the scene of the wreck last evening and will return with the remains this evening.
