RIVER NEXT WEEKOne of Poweshiek county's older homecoming events is set for Tuesday and Wednesday, July 12-13, at Deep River. The annual "Orangemen Days" program is sponsored by American Legion Post 296.
Histories of Poweshiek county record the first Northern Irish settlers arrived in Deep River township "in the 1860's." They brought with them the habit of marking July 12th as a holiday. The tradition as remained unbroken for nearly a century.
Outdoor dances are scheduled for each evening, and a midway with rides and games will be set up in the park. Go-cart races are on schedule Tuesday night at 7:30 and an amateur program is set for Wednesday evening.
A free variety program Wednesday will offer cash prizes to musicians, dancers, comedy teams and other amateur preformers.
