The Grinnell (IA) Herald; Dec. 29, 1903

William Garrett and wife, of Washington township, had a thrilling experience in a runaway last Monday. The team became frightened at the hay and turning short ran down the slight embankment at that place. This upset the buggy and all three were thrown out. The team then bolted through the fence and then took to the railroad, evidently thinking the running would be better there. The Iowa Central train was coming in at the time and this added to the excitement. When the buggy was overturned, Mr. Garrett hung onto the lines and this impeded the team sufficiently to allow his wife and grandson to free themselves from the debris without injury.
