The Grinnell (IA) Herald; March 13, 1907

MARRIED.

MINTLE-ROSS

We clip the following from a Washington, Iowa, paper relative to the marriage of one of the most prominent young farmers of this vicinity:

"Mr. Guy S. Mintle and Miss Fannie Ross were united in marriage Wednesday, Feb. 27, 1907, at four o'clock at the home of the bride's father, I.J. Ross, in northeast Washington. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Elias Handy in the presence of only the immediate relatives. Immediately after the wedding luncheon was served by Mrs. Howard Ross.

"The bride is one of Washington's finest young ladies. She graduated from the Washington high school in 1905 and since that time has remained at home.

"The groom is a son of Lester Mintle, formerly of this place and his home is in Grinnell. The bride and groom left last evening for Des Moines where they will visit a while before going to their new home on a farm near Grinnell."

Mr. and Mrs. Mintle have begun housekeeping at once on Fred Gruhn's farm of 175 acres seven and a half miles northeast of town.

It could not be truthfully said that their marriage was a complete surprise to their friends but so well did Mr. Mintle manage it that only few knew of the exact date and the Herald reporter who has been camping on his trail for weeks and who has received several false alarms was taken off his guard. However a number of his neighbors made up for it the Monday evening following their return and we are told accorded them a fitting reception.

There is no young man beginning to farm near Grinnell who starts out under more suspicious circumstances than Mr. Mintle. He is as fine a young man as there is, with the best of habits and with a host of friends to wish him joy and success in life. While we have not the pleasure of knowing his bride are willing to trust his judgment in the matter and have no doubt that in the young lady he has found a worthy helper for life.
