SAVED BY JAIL MATES

One day last week David Vance, a man who is addicted to the use of opiates, was locked up in the jail at Vinton. Being despondent, as such men usually are, he undertook suicide by cutting his wrists with the blade of a safety razor. He would soon have bled to death had not his cell mates discovered what he had done and secured instant help for him. Vance is a world war veteran, formerly of Grinnell. He had broken into a doctor's office at Vinton in order to supply himself with the coveted drug and had been bound over to the grand jury on a charge of burglary.--Newton Daily News.
