STILL NO
ARREST IN
FORREST
SLAYING

As of Sunday, no arrest had yet been made in connection with the Nov.30 slaying of Penney Sue Forrest of Grinnell.

Earlier in the week, authorities had expressed optimism that the case would be solved in the near future. It was reported that the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) was awaiting laboratory reports before making an arrest.

Penney Forrest's partially nude body was discovered near the Tama-Marshall county line on Sunday, Nov. 30. An autopsy report disclosed that she died as a result of strangulation, although stab wounds also reportedly were present.

An anonymous caller later informed The Herald-Register that he had been with her at 2 a.m. Sunday -- some three hours after the original time of death estimated by Tama County Medical Examiner Dr. Charles Maplethorpe.

Tama County and DCI officials have remained reticent about informtion they have concerning the murder. It was reported last week, however, that the investigation was centered in Marshall County -- specifically the Ferguson area.
