MURDER!

A man by the name of Owen Cannon, living 9 miles northeast of Montezuma, in Lincoln township, killed is mother Saturday night about midnight, by beating her over the head with a stick of wood. After he had killed her he threw her body out upon the wood pile and left. Owen Cannon is a man bout 50 years old, and single. His mother was about 78. It is said that Owen has been crazy, off and on, for several years, and has occasionally been so furious that he has to be confined in an insane asylum. Some years ago, it is claimed that he was robbed of a considerable amount of money somewhere out west, and since that time he has not been right in his mind. It seems that Saturday night he began an attack upon his brother, who, after trying in vain for some time to secure him, and finding himself worsted, started to a near neighbor's for help. As he came along back he went to the wood pile to get a stick of wood to use in self-defense, if necessary. To his horror he found his mother lying dead upon the pile. The crazy man was pursued and captured, not, however, until after he had been knocked down three times, as he fought furiously and absolutely refused to be taken. He now lies in jail at Montezuma. Mrs. *Owen was buried at Brooklyn yesterday. A great crowd was in attendance, and there was great excitement about the affair.
