The Grinnell (IA) Herald; March 03, 1899

Every old soldier in the county will be interested in knowing that their old, afflicted comrade, Andrew S. Evans, has been granted a pension of fifty dollars per month by a special act of congress, the bill being introduced and pushed through by Congressman Lacey. As soon as the bill passed Mr. Lacey telegraphed T.B. Applegate who at once notified Mr. Evans. It has taken much hard work to get the bill through and many delays necessarily resulted. Mr. Evans will not long survive, but this recognition by the government he fought to save will serve to cheer him in his last days.
