BADLY SCARED

Jewel Tea Company Agent Has a Wild Ride.

An attempted hold-up was frustrated Thursday evening according to press reports, when Lawrence Kraft of Newton refused to halt and came racing into Grinnell from the north with his heart in his throat and the throttle on his trusty Ford wide open. Mr. Kraft, who is agent for the Jewel Tea Company was enroute from Gilman to Grinnell at about six o'clock. When about four miles north of Grinnell he says two cars attempted to blockade the road and the occupants leveled guns on Mr. Kraft and ordered him to stop. He did the opposite.

In the rattle and noise accompanying his flight--he carried considerable china and kitchen ware in his car--he heard nothing more of the bandits but when he arrived in Grinnell the marks of two bullets were found in the top of the car and Mr. Kraft is said to have been more scared when he found these than when he was making his wild drive.
