The Grinnell Herald; April 4, 1922

Mrs. Raymond Pilgrim and Miss Mary Pilgrim entertained about 18 couples of young people of Maple Grove Friday evening at the home of the latter in honor of Miss Charlotte Hutchins and Egbert Pilgrim whose marriage takes place Saturday, April 15. A mock wedding in which only men took part was the most laughable stunt during the evening. Those participating were Bert Adams, bride; Morey Pilgrim, groom; Geo. Hyde, bridesmaid; Will Steenhoek, best man; Raymond Pilgrim, minister, and Judson Blakely carried the ring on a pillow. Following the mock wedding Miss Huthcins was told to hunt the gifts which were hidden around the room. This was her first lesson in hunting eggs. After several games refreshments were served. A bride's cake occupied the place of honor in the center of the table. The bride of the mock wedding was invited to cut the cake and pass it around. After trying with some difficulty to eat it someone called attention to the calender and they found that the cake was nothing but corn bread.
