BROOKLYN NEWS

Last Monday evening Chas. Sutton brought in the hide and scalp of a big timber wolf which he had killed under peculiar circumstances, and after quite an adventure. He was fixing fences on the farm and was accompanied by his shepherd dog when the wolf came into sight only a few rods away. The dog, which is a plucky one and did not know about wolves, attacked him and Mr. Sutton armed with a 2x4 scantling which he was using to pound the dirt into the post holes, went to the aid of the dog. A running fight ensued, between the wolf and the dog, and when Mr. Sutton came up the wolf made a rush at him but was laid out by a blow on the head from the scantling and the dog finished him. Both dog and man were almost exhausted by the fight, which might easily have had a worse termination.
