The Grinnell (IA) Herald; Sept. 13, 1892

--An accident which nearly proved fatal befell Andrew Jumber last Saturday. He was engaged in Johnson Bros. hardware store, lowering some stoves on the elevator to the basement. The load was heavy and in an unlucky moment while three or four feet from the bottom, he loosened the brake. The load went to the bottom with a crash, destroying the platform. The weights used to balance the platform flew to the top against a large cog wheel which was broken. A large section struck the unfortunate man on the skull, laying open the head. He was picked up and a doctor summoned. He was taken to the home of his sister, *Mrs. Gilbert in south city. It was thought he could not live but he is now getting along nicely.

Transcriber note: *Mrs. Gilbert is the wife of Isaac L. Gilbert living in south Grinnell.
