GRINNELL FARMER HAS DISTRESSING ACCIDENT; END OF HIS THUMB IS TORN OFF

Lawrence Decatur, living about a mile and a half west of town had the end of his thumb torn off while picking corn one day last week. One of the horses he was driving kept hanging back so that the singletree finally caught in one of the front wheels. Decatur stopped and just as he put his hand on the singletree to take it out of the wheel, the horse stepped up, squeezing his thumb between the wheel and the singletree. The entire thumb was badly mashed and the end was almost completely taken off.
