LOG-CABIN HOME IS ERECTED BY MONTEZUMA FARM FAMILY

MONTEZUMA--Have you ever run across something you felt you just had to have?

That was the case with the Russell Talbert family, Montezuma route 2.

TWO SUMMERS ago the Talbert's were vacationing in Montana where they saw several homes constructed in log-cabin style. The family was attracted to the style, so just for fun they inquired about costs, plans and the possibility of building one in Iowa.

You guessed it.

The temptation was too much and now the Talberts are putting the finishing touches on a log-cabin home of their own.

There were, however, difficulties in preparing for the construction. The biggest problem was shipping 1,700 feet of Montana Cedar over the 1,200 miles between Montana and the Talbert farm.

WITH THIS accomplished, Talbert and his father-in-law, Floyd Stanford, began the construction themselves. They have been slowed by farm work and weather, but for the most part the building has progressed well.

Finishing touches on the interior is all that remains now. The home features hardwood floors, an electric kitchen in the basement and a gas kitchen on the main floor of the house.

While the construction was underway, the family lived in a house trailer and in the basement of the new home.

The Talberts have farmed near Montezuma since 1936 and also operate a Montezuma cafe. They have two sons, Russell Jr. and Ricky.
