TISH-MURPHY

On Wednesday, Feb. 16, 1921, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. S.A. Tish, their daughter Miss Lela M. Tish was united in marriage to Rolla G. Murphy, A.B. Cornell, pastor of the Church of Christ at New Sharon officiating.

In preparation for the event the home had been beautifully decorated. At "high noon" the contracting parties took their places, with Mr. Gilbert Wayne Murphy of Champaign, Ill., brother of the groom as best man, and Miss Cressie L. Tish of Tama sister of the bride as bridesmaid. Mr. Cornell then came before them with an open bible and read a lesson from Eph. 5. (unreadable).

It was a beautiful sight when the little nephew of the groom, John Fred Krabbe, 4 years old, who celebrated his birthday in this way and the niece of the bride, Lola Ferne Foster, each carrying a pretty calla lily flower, stepped in front of the bridal pair, permitting each to find a ring that had been deftly hidden in its secret depths. While the marriage vows were taken the bride and groom each stood with a hand on the open bible. The law of God as well as the law of the state has a place in the marriage ceremony.

The bride is well known and equally well is she honored. She graduated from the country schools in 1914 and from the local high school in 1918. Soon after her graduation she became stenographer for the Spaulding Co. which position she held for two years. From that place she was called to assume a like duty in the Merchant National Bank.

She has been for years an interested and helpful worker in all departments of the local Christian Church. She is truly a worthy woman and will prove an excellant help-mate for her husband.

The groom came here from Champaign, Ill., a little over twenty months ago. He has shown himself a man of excellent habits, active, industrious and trusted by all his employers.

They will be at home to their friends in the Preston home after March 1. The congratulations of the friends were sincere, all joining in wishing them the greatest happiness.

Out of town guests were Mrs. William H. Murphy from Yazoo City, Miss., mother of the groom, his brother Gilbert W. and nephew John Fred Krabbe, of Champaign, Ill., Miss Cressie of Tama and Mr. and Mrs. William Foster and daughter Lola from near Jacob.

A three course dinner was served to the complete satisfaction of all guests. The bride received many beautiful and useful presents. It was a merry crowd and a joyful occassion.
