Widow of the late John Morrison, who was born in Ohio, March 10, 1820, and there grew to manhood. Then moved to Illinois, where he remained until May, 1843, when he came to Iowa, locating, locating in Mahaska county. There he was married, November 3, 1845, to the subject of this sketch, Miss Sarah E. Garsuch. In the fall of 1856 they came to this county, and here Mr. M. was engaged in farming and stock-raising, until the 13th of August, 1862, when he enlisted as first lieutenant in company B., Fortieth Iowa volunteers, and served until March 3, 1864, when he was honorably discharged on account of disability. About three weeks after his discharge he died (March 24, 1864), leaving eight children to mourn his loss: Robert, Mary J., Keziah A., John I., Eliza B., Samuel D., James M., and Charles G. Mr. Morrison was a man of broad experience, and a thorough and accurate business man. His well deserved reputation for fair and honorable dealings, as well as strict integrity, had won him many friends. Mrs. Morrison was born in Maryland, August 16, 1826, and resided there until nine years of age, when with her parents she moved to Ohio, and was there educated.
