Des Moines: Union Hist. Co., 1880.CUMMINGS, H.G. - Bear Creek Twp - pg 828. Retired, Brooklyn. Was born in Hampshire county, Massachusetts, October 8, 1826. In the spring of 1835 he moved with his parents to LaSalle county, Illinois, where he was raised and educated. His business has been that of farming, at which he was engaged till 1865, when he retired from active life. He married, November 22, 1854, Miss Mary Peck. In the spring of 1855 he came to this county and settled in what is now Warren township, where he resided till his removal to Brooklyn. His business prosperity is due to himself, as he started out in life with very limited capital. He owns a handsome residence in Brooklyn, besides large tracts of land in this and other counties of the State. He has five children living: Eliza (now Mrs. J. John Francis), Edith, Dora, Clorine and Maggie. They have lost one, an infant.
