History of Poweshiek County Iowa

BEADERSTADT, JOHN--Sec. 8, P.O. Searsboro. Was born in Prussia, Germany, on the 14th of January, ----, in which country he lived until he was twenty-one years of age, when he came to America, settling in the State of Illinois, where he remained one year, and removed to Iowa and settled in Jasper county, in which county he lived until 1862, when he enlisted in company K, Twenty-eighth Iowa volunteer infantry, with which regiment he continued during the full time for which he enlisted, and until the close of the war, and with which he participated in the following engagements: Champion's Hill, Jackson, Mississippi, all the Red River Expedition, Siege of Vicksburg, and then went to the eastern department, where they were in the battles of Winchester and Cedar Creek. He was honorably discharged in 1865, at Davenport, Iowa, and again settled in Jasper county. He was married in the year 1861, to Miss Sarah Gause of Kellogg, who was born in the State of Indiana, on the 6th day of May, 1844, by which union they have three children, whose names are, John M. (born December 29, 1862), Addie (born June 13, 1866), Alma (born June 15, 1868). He had the misfortune to lose his companion, who died on the 20th day of October, 1873. He was married a second time, in August, 1875, to Mrs. Mary Robins, who is still living. He has a nice little home situated on the south road from Searsboro to Lynnville, surrounded by handsome natural trees, and his his home adorned with many conveniences. Mr. Beaderstadt is a very intelligent and pleasant gentleman.
