George J. Soppe

George J. Soppe, 75, of Neola died Aug. 11 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital.

He was born Feb. 27, 1928, in Neola to George and Alice (Whitmore) Soppe. He was a 1945 graduate of Neola High School. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He operated a Tank Wank for Mobil Oil for 18 years, and worked for the City of Neola for 24 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of Neola Presbyterian Church and Neola American Legion Post No. 330.

Mr. Soppe and his wife, Ruth (Hayes), were married Nov. 6, 1949. He was preceded in death by his son, Craig Soppe, in 1972 and granddaughter, Jill.

Survivors in addition to his wife include three daughters, Pam Lauck and husband, David, of Centennial, Colo., Debbie Lund and husband, Denny, of Minden, Dyan Shuning and husband, Richard, of Neola; three sons, Bruce Soppe and wife, Cindy, of Neola, Brad Soppe and wife, Kathy, of Lakewood, Colo., and Kriss Soppe and wife, Terri, of Colorado springs, Colo.; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Geraldine Gardner and husband, Dean, of Neola, Alice Schnitker and husband, Jack, of Laramie, Wyo., and Cloretta Whaley of Greybull, Wyo.

Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at Neola Presbyterian Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Dean Sparr officiating. Burial will be in Neola Township Cemetery with military rites conducted by Neola American Legion Post No. 330, followed by a luncheon at the church.

Memorials may be offered to Neola Presbyterian Church or Neola Fire & Rescue.
