Allen Bullis Died Saturday
Stricken with Apoplexy as he was in Shed Near Home.

One of Griswold's most highly respected retired farmers passed away quite suddenly at his home in the west part of town Saturday about noon from an attack of apoplexy. Mr. Bullis had been in his usual health and the news of his sudden death came as a shock to everyone. He had been about town only a few hours before and had greeted his many friends as was his custom when on the street.

He had been over to the home of George Rarey, across the street for some chicken feed and had taken it in the shed nearby when he was stricken. He sank down and was found in a sitting position a few minutes later. His family physician was called before he was removed to the house and though he was by the side of Mr. Bullis in a very few minutes the spark of life had fled.

Mr. Bullis was a native of Wisconsin, being born at Racine June 6th, 1847. He grew to manhood in his native state and when the war broke out between the states he enlisted in Company E of the 19th Wisconsin and served to the close of the war.

After the war he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Hermas, November 27th, 1873. He came to Iowa in 1871 and settled on a farm in Wright township. He and Mrs. Bullis resided in Wright township in 1913. The had but one child Fred, who resides on the home place.

Mr. Bullis was a member of Worthington Post, No. 9 GAR. (Unreadable section of obit mentions, Odd Fellows and attending Union Church, and being a good man). For several terms he was a member of the Board of Supervisors of Pottawattamie County and during his term of office was chairman for (unreadable).

His every day life was that of honesty and integrity and his going from our midst will cause a vacancy hard to fill. The funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock and were conducted by the Rev. J. L. Blanchard, pastor of the First Congregational Church of Council Bluffs. After the services at the home the remains were laid to rest in the Whipple Cemetery.
