Avoca, Ia., Dec 6.--Joseph A Bunnell, one of the oldest settlers in this county, died at his home in this city Thursday Nov. 29, aged 70 years, ten months and nineteen days, and was buried Sunday under the auspices of the G.A.R. post of this city, of which he was a member. He was born at Strutsburough, Ohio in 1836. He came to Iowa in 1853 and settled on a farm south of Avoca in 1854. He was married to Mrs. Sarah J. Headdley August 14, 1855, and enlisted in the army in 1863. At the close of the war he settled on his farm south of Avoca, and engaged in farming and the raising and feeding of cattle. He leaves a wife and eight children, five boys and three girls. It is estimated that he was worth $125,000. He owned 3,500 acres of land in Canada, 500 acres south of Avoca, and farms in Texas and Colorado. He left most of his property to his wife and five boys, George E., Walter E., Albert E., Charles S., and Ola E. Bunnell all of Avoca, except Charles, who is on his father's farm in Canada.
