-- Prominent in Lodges HereEdwin J. Abbott aged 77 years, former county treasurer and overseer of the poor, died of complications early Monday morning at his home, 509 Daman street, after an illness of three weeks. Mr. Abbott had resided in this city for forty-seven years and was prominent in the Knights of Pythias, Grand Army of the Republic and the Odd Fellows. He was also a member of St. Paul's Episcopal church and was formerly superintendent of the Sunday school of that church.
Mr. Abbott was born in London, Eng.in 1841, and came to America with his parents, locating in Cleveland, OH. From that city he removed to Council Bluffs, where he has since resided. For the entire period of forty-seven years, his residence in ___, Mr. Abbott has lived at the same location. He was a charter member of St. Alban's lodge No. 17, Knights of Pythias, and has been keeper of records and seals for the lodge almost continuously since the formation of the organization. He was also prominent in the district meetings of the order.
He is survived by a wife and two daughters, Mrs. Nellie Langdon, San Francisco, Cal, and Mrs. James H. Craigmile, Council Bluffs. He also leaves a sister at Litchfield, OH.
The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Craigmile, 323 South First street, the Rev. Wilford Ernst Mann, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal church, officiating. The Knights of Pythias will have charge of the services at the grave. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery.
