John Danforth, an old and well-known resident of this city, died yesterday about noon at his home, 107 South Eighth Street, of heart failure. He had been ailing all winter, having had an attack of the grip which had gradually developed into valvular affection of the heart. About a week ago his death was hourly expected, but he rallied and strong hopes were entertained of his ultimate recovery, but Tuesday he took a turn for the worse and the end came yesterday at 12:30 o'clock.

The deceased was born in Norway, Oxford County, Maine, December 9, 1834. He came to Council Bluffs about thirty years ago and for a number of years was engaged in the lumber business with his brother, Josiah. From here he went to Woodbine, where he shortly after married Miss Minnie Kilday, who survives him. About ten years ago he returned to this city, which he has made his home ever since. He owned considerable property and had large farming interests at the time of his death. He was also one of the present owners of the Ogden Hotel.

Mr. Danforth was one of a family of eight, three brothers of which, Josiah of this city, and Frank and James of Norway, Maine, survive him. F. T. True, city finance clerk, is a nephew of his and had for some time past largely looked after his property interest for him.

The funeral will be held on Friday, but announcement of the hour will be made later.
