Griswold Lady Dies Saturday
Funeral Services held Tuesday for Mrs. Charles Brown
Mrs. Mary Brown, widow of the late Charles D. Brown of Griswold, passed away late Saturday night following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Brown died at a hospital in Clarinda where she had been a patient for many months. Mary Elizabeth Brown was born near Amboy, Illinois, on November 8, 1882, being a daughter of the late John and Minerva Peebles. At her passing at Clarinda, Iowa, on December 17, 1955, Mrs. Brown had reached the age of 73 years, 1 month and 9 days. Mrs. Brown came to this locality with her parents as a small girl in 1884 and was reared in the Griswold community. She was united in marriage to Charles D. Brown of Griswold on December 25, 1901, and the family has resided in Griswold since. Mr. and Mrs. Brown were privileged to observe their golden wedding anniversary four years ago and on May 26, 1954 Mr. Brown was called to his Maker. Mr. and Mrs. Brown became the parents of two sons, one who has preceded the mother in death. Mrs. Brown was a home and family loving woman. She was a member of the Griswold Church of Christ, joining with the congregation early in life.
Left to mourn her passing is one son, Dorwin, of Griswold. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Alta Humphrey of Griswold and Mrs. Ethel Poulsen of Cambridge, Illinois; a brother, Arch Peebles of Griswold; two grandchildren; in addition to numerous other relatives and many friends. One son, Cecil, passed away while serving overseas with the armed forces during World War II.
Funeral services were held this Tuesday afternoon from the Church of Christ of this city. The pastor, Rev. Ronald Cochran, officiated. The music was by a male quartet composed of Stanley Braden, Marlin Perdue, Robert Boseck Jr., and Robert Christensen, accompanied by Mrs. Harold Perdue. The casket bearers were: Tom Cousins, Floyd Sunderman, Edgar Hemphill, Harold Perdue, Vernon Rush and Jesse Knoke. The floral committee was composed of Mrs. Joe Easter, Mrs. C. L. Velie and Mrs. George P. Forsyth. Interment was made on the family lot in Griswold Cemetery.
