Good Mother Is Called
Mrs. John Milne Passes Away After a Short Illness
While many of her friends were aware that she was ill, but few knew that death had come to the relief of Mrs. John Milne at her home in the west part of town. She had been feeling poorly for some time but had been able to be up and around the home a part of the time. Saturday she grew much worse and Sunday passed to the great beyond surrounded by the members of her family.
Jessie McKenzie was born at Elgin, Scotland, February 27, 1857, and on December 19, 1879, was united in marriage to her now sorely bereaved husband. In the spring of 1882 Mr. and Mrs. Milne and little daughter, Elizabeth, and Mother, Mrs. Milne, came to America and located on a farm west of Griswold in Pottawattamie County. They prospered in the land of their adoption. Two sons and another daughter blessed the home and it was indeed a pleasure to know that all were able to be present at the last few hours of their mother’s life. The children are: Mrs. Elizabeth Winterstein, of Keosauqua, Iowa, Alex and W. C. on farms west of Griswold and Jessie at home. In the spring of 1911 Mr. and Mrs. Milne had the home in the west part of Griswold erected and they came to town to enjoy their last days. Mrs. Milne was a member of the Presbyterian church in Griswold. She has united with the church as a girl in her native land and kept the faith to the end. She was one of those good Scotch motherse who make home a heaven for all who dwell therein. The funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon from the home and the pastor Rev. R. F. Chambers gave a beautiful address over the remains of the departed. After the services all that was mortal was taken to the cemetery west of Griswold and laid away to await the call of him who shall judge us according to our deeds. Those from a distance who were present were: Mrs. Elizabeth Winterstein of Keosauqua, Mrs. Campbell, a sister, of Nebraska, Mr. and Mrs. H. Able of Council Bluffs, Mrs. F. H. Wilson of Central City, Nebraska.
