Richard J. Olsen

Richard James Olsen, 81, of Underwood died Feb. 28 at Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley.

He was born on a farm in Hazel Dell Township on May 13, 1923, to James A. and Sarah (Wilmott) Olsen. He spent his entire life in Pottawattamie County as a farmer and cattle feeder. Richard and his wife, Marjorie C. Allen, were married June 17, 1945. They were married almost 60 years. He served several years on the Underwood School Board. Richard was a priesthood member of the Community of Christ Church, Council Bluffs Central Congregation.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Maxine.

Richard is survived by his wife, Marjorie; daughter, Sally Olsen, and husband, Larry, of Council Bluffs; daughter, Karen Olsen, of Iowa City; son, Lynn, and wife, Sherri, of Minden; daughter, Sandra Seidler, and husband, Frank, of Council Bluffs; son, Mark, and wife, Amy, of Minden; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Beulah Heiberg, and husband, Robert, of Nebraska City, Neb., and brother, Harold Olsen, of Council Bluffs; nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Services will be held at the chapel on Friday at 11 a.m. with Evangelist Ivan Olsen officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at the Masonic Temple, 130 S. Sixth St.

Memorials may be offered to either the Underwood Fire and Rescue or Community of Christ Council Bluffs Central Church.
