Joseph Arlen "Jody" Matthews Sr., age 77, passed away September 9, 2014, at Risen Son.

Joseph was born June 15, 1937, in Neola, Iowa, to Joseph M. and Arlene (Bonnes) Matthews and graduated from Neola High. He served his country in the US Navy and worked for U.S. West Telephone Company for 30 years.

Joseph was preceded in death by his infant son, William; parents, Joseph and Arlene; brothers, Ronald and Michael Matthews.

Survivors include children, Debra Ladwig (Jeff), of Omaha, Neb., Cheryl Mathews (Dave), of Council Bluffs, Joe Matthews, of Omaha; grandchildren, Brandon and Abbie Ladwig, Jason, Nick and Ashley Mathews, Derek and Tori Matthews; great grandchildren; sisters and brother, Monette (Clint) Bird, of Oregon, Gary (Eileen) Matthews, Annette Stark, Jayne Matthews, all of Neola, Jenelle (Randy) Boxberger, of Kansas; many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services Saturday, September 20, 2014, 11 a.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Luncheon will follow in the Cutler-O'Neill Community Room. Dr. Gregg Marutzky, Omaha Church of Christ, officiant.
