HARLAN - Bernita Cecelia Powers, 83, of Harlan died July 16 at University of Nebraska Medical Center.

She was born in Panama. She worked for the Iowa State Liquor Commission for 21 1/2 years.

Mrs. Powers was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Powers. They were married 58 years.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Cecelia Powers, of Wood Dale, Ill.; granddaughter, Lynn Marie Ruehrdanz and husband, Robert, of Wood Dale, Ill.; grandsons, Michael Powers of Pennsylvania, Robert Powers and wife, Karen, of Connecticut; great-grandsons, Kevin Ruehrdanz, David Ruehrdanz and Alex Ruehrdanz, all of Wood Dale, Ill.; sister, Helen Herkenrath, of Portsmouth.

Visitation will be Friday from 3 to 9 p.m. with a wake service at 7 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan. The funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Harlan with Robert Hoefler officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Portsmouth.
