Harald N. Christensen

RACINE WI; Mr. Harald N. Christensen, 88, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 1997, at his residence.

He was born in Neola, Iowa, son of Danish immigrant parents, Niels J. and Maren K. (nee: Andersen) Christensen. He was the eleventh born and last surviving member of a family of 12 children.

Educated in chemical engineering at Dana College, he supervised the laboratory of Continental aviation in Muskegon, Mich., during World War II. Following the war he worked for a chemical supply company in Grand Rapids, Mich., and was a partner in his own chemical supply company for several years before moving to Racine to manage the lab at Oster. When Oster moved to Florida he went to work for AC /Delco on the moon rover for the Apollo Project. He retired from General Motors in 1970 and for the next 24 years he worked in vious consulting capacities, the last for Astronautics, Milwaukee, until incapacitated by a leg amputation in 1994.

He was an active churchgoer and a member of Christ Church United Methodist. He liked to make things grow and was an avid flower gardener. He reveled in solving unique industrial problems that required his extensive practical experience. He enjoyed traveling, playing bridge and golfing. He was an intelligent, quiet, hardworking and gentle man who will be fondly remembered by his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Helen May Whipple; his two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis (Lynn) Christensen of Madison, Philip (Kathy) Christensen of Greendale; his four grandchildren, Kimberly of Madison, Steven (Julie) of Dallas, Texas, Sara and Laura of Greendale; his four sisters-in-law, Maybell Christensen and Mary Mihley of Council Bluff, Iowa, Emma Christensen of Coralville, Iowa, Julie Christensen of Des Moines, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 1997, at 2 p.m. at Christ Church United Methodist, 5109 Washington Avenue, with Rev. Jo Bierer officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family on Tuesday, April 8, from 10 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.

Memorials to Christ Church United Methodist Bell Choir fund have been suggested by the family.
