Eugene Frank Kramer

April 08, 1933 - October 14, 2006, Monona, IA

Eugene Frank Kramer, 73, passed through death to eternal life with Christ on October 14, 2006, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics after a short illness. Gene was born the son of Clarence and Frieda (Lucht) Kramer on April 8, 1933, in Wellesley, Ontario, Canada. At the age of fourteen, Gene’s family moved to the United States. He graduated from high school in Reedsburg, Wisconsin. He then attended Concordia College in Milwaukee and then Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, where he was ordained a Lutheran Minister of the LC-MS in 1958. After many years of ministerial service in Sumner, Iowa and Waterloo, Iowa, Gene attended the University of Iowa Law School where he graduated in 1983. After graduation, he moved to Monona, Iowa to practice law. He has also assisted with various pastoral duties through the years at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona. Gene had recently announced his retirement from his law practice.

Gene loved God’s wonderful outdoor creation and had a vigor and appreciation for all things he experienced – big and small. He especially loved the change of seasons and the beauty of color in the fall. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cheering for the Hawkeyes and Cubs, and traveling. Gene also brightened many a day with his story telling and robust laughter. He had an uncanny talent to be able to recall a story and relate it to almost any event.

Gene is survived by his daughter, Deborah (Dennis) Peterson of North Liberty, Iowa; sons, David (Mary) Kramer of Neola, Iowa and Daniel (Marcie) Kramer of Payson, Illinois; stepson, Christopher (De Ann) Decker of Ankeny, Iowa; stepdaughters Jennifer (John) Forgey of Kansas City and Annie (Keith) Whittemore of Waterloo, Iowa; brothers Elmer of Toronto, Ontario, Leonard of Port Colbourne, Ontario and Herman (Judy) of Lake View, Iowa; sisters Lois (Gordon) Clifford of Port Colbourne, Ontario and Helen Henschel of Harlan, Iowa; his first wife, Connie Kramer, of Waterloo, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.

Gene is preceded in death by his wife Jo Ann, brothers Walter and Robert, infant brother Andrew and infant grandson Jason.

Rest in peace good and faithful servant.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monon, United Methodist Church, Monona, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Monona, American Cancer Society or Lutheran World Relief.
