William Rief

Mass of Christian Burial will be held for William H. “Bill” Rief on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Orleans, Nebraska, with Father Harlan Waskowiak officiating. Interment will be held at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Orleans, Nebraska.

William Henry “Bill” Rief, 77 years of age, passed away at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege, on Sunday, September 19, 2010. He was born on March 29, 1933 in Neola, Iowa to Walter and Florence (Thomas) Rief.

He grew up in Neola and received his education from Neola High School. He was united in marriage to Donna Casey on November 1, 1957 in Omaha, Nebraska and to this union, three children were born: Mary, Tim, and Michelle. The family lived in Omaha where Bill was employed by the Northern Propane Company until purchasing his own company, Rief Propane, which operated out of Wilsonville and Orleans, Nebraska.

Bill loved to spend time with his wife and family. He also enjoyed playing cards and golf. He loved candy and sweets.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Sean Denton; two brothers, Raymond and Leonard, and one sister, Bernice.

He leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife, Donna of Orleans, Nebraska; one son, Tim Rief of Orleans, Nebraska; two daughters: Mary Broers of Indianapolis, Indiana and Michelle Nunnery of Imperial, Missouri; 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Orleans, Nebraska.

Memorials are suggested to the family for designation at a later date.
