Evertt E. “Shorty” Rageth

Evertt E. “Shorty” Rageth, age 71, of Council Bluffs passed away October 10, 2010, at UNMC, in Omaha, Neb., from injuries suffered in an accident at the intersection of Wabash and Overland Trail.

Shorty was born February 17, 1939, in Council Bluffs, to the late Clarence and Laura Belle (Stephens) Rageth. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1959 and served his country in the U.S. Army for 6 years. Shorty married Kyla K. Reuter, on September 19, 1964, in Council Bluffs. They were blessed with four children, Runt, Susan, Jody, and Lorie. He was a truck driver for 25 years; custodian for the Council Bluffs Schools for 10 years; worked at Tractor Supply; veterinary aide at Carson, Iowa Veterinary Clinic and a painter for Bressman Painting. He was of the Christian faith. Shorty was a member of the Midwest Appaloosa Association; Quarter Horse Association and lifetime member of the Paint Horse Association.

Shorty is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kyla K. Rageth, of Council Bluffs; son, Runt Rageth and wife, Machelle, of Harris, Mo.; daughters, Susan Sunderman and husband, Kevin, of McClelland, Iowa, Jody Riche and husband, Joseph, of Neola, Iowa, Lorie Sellers and husband, Robert, of Council Bluffs; 13 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Rageth, Sr. and wife, Lois, of Pine Bluff, Wyo.; sisters, Charlotte Whitman and husband, Robert, of Perham, Minn., Carol Hernandez and husband, Jerome, of Omaha, Neb.

Visitation with the family, Thursday, 5 to 8 p.m., at the Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Funeral service, Friday, 11 a.m., at the mortuary.

Interment Grange Cemetery, Honey Creek, Iowa.

The family will direct memorials.
