Gordon K. Shannon Sr.

The funeral for Gordon K. Shannon Sr., 81, of Council Bluffs will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Prescott officiating.

Mr. Shannon died April 17 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital.

He was born March 3, 1922, in Council Bluffs to Roy Shannon and Delores Williams Shannon. He was a World War II veteran and prisoner of war as he served in the U.S. Army. He was a mail handler for Union Pacific Railroad for 38 years. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post No. 2.

Mr. Shannon was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane Fuller, in 1992, and his brothers, Terry and Larry.

Survivors include four sons, Gordon K. Shannon "Butch" Jr., Timothy F., Greg E. and Patrick R., all of Council Bluffs; daughter, Kathleen Poulson, of Conway, Ark.; two sisters, Maxine Wallace and husband, Wally, of Kansas and Patricia Robb and husband, Leonard, of Minnesota; three brothers, Jerry Shannon of Missouri, Gene Shannon and wife, Norma, of Council Bluffs and Dick Shannon and wife, Joan, of California; sisters-in-law, Madeline Shannon of North Platte, Neb., and Terry of Glenwood; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Visitation with the family will be Sunday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 2, with a luncheon to follow at the VFW Club.

Memorials may be offered to the VFW Post 737.
