Mary E. Schwieso

Mary E. Schwieso, 99, of Council Bluffs died March 27 at the Indian Hills Nursing Center. She lived in Neola from 1947-97, and for a short time in Schleswig.

Mrs. Schwieso was born in Spearfish, S.D., to Hugh and Angeline (West) Cavanagh on Feb. 11, 1904, and graduated from St. Joseph High School in Neola in 1922.

Mrs. Schwieso was a country school teacher in Schleswig and a homemaker. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Neola, the Altar and Rosary Society, the Neola American Legion Auxiliary, Community Club of Neola and was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Mrs. Schwieso was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, in 1977 and her son, Robert.

Survivors include her daughter, Marian Pauley and husband, Neil, of Persia; two sisters, Angela Schuyler of Omaha and Margaret Marchand of Stockton, Calif.; a brother, Paul Cavanagh and wife, Margaret, of Grand Junction, Colo.; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation with the family will follow a wake service at 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Patrick's Church in Neola.

Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Church in Neola with the Rev. Richard Gubbels officiating. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery. A lunch will be held in the church hall.

Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
