Donald Funkhauser

The funeral for Donald H. "Funky" Funkhauser, 69, of Council Bluffs will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Chapel with the Rev. Dan Kirby of Queen of Apostles Church officiating.

Mr. Funkhauser died March 25 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital.

He was born March 16, 1934, to Harold T. and Merita A. (Feller) Funkhauser. He served as lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force for five years, including service in the Korean War. He was driver and salesman for Falstaff Distributing Co. in Council Bluffs for 26 years, retiring in 1986. He was of the Catholic faith. He served three terms as commander of American Legion Rainbow Post No. 2. He was also past grand chef of 40 & 8; life member of Veterans of Foregin Wars Post No. 737; member of Sons of Italy; and past secretary for Bagles Lodge No. 104.

Mr. Funkhauser and his wife, JoAnn "Jackie" (Call), were married Dec. 30, 1956.

Survivors in addition to his wife include daughter, Diane, and friend, Steve Cottrell, of Council Bluffs; two sons, Donald D. Funkhauser and Mark Funkhauser and wife, Lisa, all of Council Bluffs; eight grandchildren; brother, Peter Craig Funkhauser, and wife, Jeannie, of Omaha.

Visitation with the family will be tonight from 7 to 8 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Garner Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 2, followed by a luncheon at American Legion.
