PETER EHLERS
(1837-1914)

Minden mourns the death of one of its oldest and highly respected citizens in the passing of Peter Ehlers to his heavenly home last Friday, at the ripe old age of 80 years.

In 1875 with his family he moved here and settled down, engaging in the live stock and grain business until a few years ago, when he retired from it. As a business man his sturdy principles of integrity and fair dealing to all won the respect and admiration of those who came into contact with him. As a citizen he stood for all that would advance and encourage the growth of this town and during his many years of residence here he contributed generously to the interests of Minden.

Mr. Ehlers was surrounded at his last illness by all his surviving children, his wife and four children having preceeded him in death. Those left to mourn his death are: Miss Minnie Ehlers, Louie, George and Willie of Minden; and Emma Rose of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. A large number of relatives in different localities besides numerous close personal friends remain to mourn his departure.

Services were conducted at the home by Rev. Loos, on Monday, and the remains were then sent to Davenport for interment. All of the children accompanied the body to its last resting place.

The absence of Peter Ehlers will be felt by his neighbors and friends and the entire community will miss his familiar figure. The loss of an upright, honest man is a loss to any community, and Peter Ehlers embodied these virtues as do not all men in their life journey. His loving heart is now at rest though his memory will live for many a year. According to a wish of the deceased his body was placed beside those of his wife and daughter.

The News extends its sympathy to the bereft ones in their time of trouble.
