Bernie V. Budwell

The funeral for Bernie V. Budwell, 76, of Council Bluffs will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Chapel with the Rev. Phillip Tilson of Valley View Baptist Church officiating.

Mr. Budwell died March 17 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital.

He was born March 24, 1926, in Collinsville, Ill., to Anthony and Julie Ann (Ashman) Budwell. He lived in Council Bluffs for the past 50 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 28 years, retiring in 1988. He was a former member of the local Eagles Club.

Mr. Budwell and his wife, Dorothy J. (Sipes), were married June 25, 1960.

Survivors in addition to his wife include four sons, Bernie C. and wife, Sara, Anthony V., Ralph L. and Christopher T. and wife, Shawn, all of Council Bluffs; sister, Nelle Tonka, of Maryville, Ill.; brother, LeRoy Budwell, and wife, Maryann, of Maryville, Ill.; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at Valley View Baptist Church.

Memorials may be offered to American Cancer Society.
