In Memory: M. Joann Thomas

M. Joann Thomas, 70, of Council Bluffs died November 10 at Bethany Lutheran Nursing Home.

Mrs. Thomas was born March 10, 1931, in Fairbury, Nebraska, to Joseph and Lena (Hock) Murphy. She and her family moved to Council Bluffs in 1939. She graduated from St. Francis High School in 1949. She was a hostess for 10 years at the 64 Club and a clerk for 15 years at Walgreens Drug Store.

She was a member of St. Peter's Church, the church's Altar and Rosary Society and Union Pacific Oldtimers Club.

She and her husband, Robert Thomas, were married for 48 years.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Michael and wife, Jean, Daniel and wife, Sue, all of Council Bluffs and William and wife, Cheryl, of Silver City; five daughters, Pam Danzer; Juli Hough and husband, John; Cynthia Wredt and husband, Randy; Diane Wink and husband, Bill; and Robi Thomas, all of Council Bluffs; two brothers, Francis "Bud" Murphy and wife, Virginia, of Treynor; and Keith Murphy and wife, Helen, of Council Bluffs and 17 grandchildren.

Awake service was held Monday at 8 p.m. at Belford-O'Neill Chapel with the Rev. Ken Gross officiating. Visitation with the family followed.

Funeral Mass was held Tuesday at St. Peter's Church with the Rev. Chuck Kottas officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Parkinson's Foundation.
