Edward P. Turk (1904-1984)

Edward Peter Turk was born on a farm near Minden, Iowa on April 9, 1904. He was the son of August and Bertha Tradel Turk. He was one of nine boys in the family. He attended school in the Minden, Tennant area. He and his family moved to North Branch, Iowa where they lived for some years. All of the boys played baseball as their father had done before them.

Eddie worked for the railroad for a number of years, as a cook. He served in the Army during World War II. After returning to Shelby he worked as a cook for the Pingel family for several years. In later years he had a large garden and sold fruits and vegetables along with doing some house painting. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Minden.

He passed away on November 18, 1984 at the Veterans Hospital in Omaha. He had attained the age of 80 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers, George, Charlie, Arthur, John, Julius and Walter.

Edward is survived by two brothers, Harry of Council Bluffs and Virgil of Shelby, besides many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
