Gordon Vern Turk, Sr., 70, formerly of Council Bluffs, Iowa, died of cancer at his home in Loveland, Colorado on Jan. 30, 2008.

He was born Jan 21, 1938 in Shelby, Iowa to Virgil and Irene (Kubelck) Turk. An outstanding basketball player, he graduated from high school in Underwood, Iowa before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He later attended the University of Colorado in Boulder. He moved to Loveland in 2003.

Gordon worked for the Council Bluffs Post Office before transferring to Boulder Colorado in 1963. On March 24, 1964, he married Rosanne E. Knox of Boulder. He worked as a letter carrier, clerk and passport officer in the Boulder office before retiring in 2000. He was a champion bowler as well as an expert horseman. He particularly enjoyed attending his sons' rodeo events.He was raised in the Lutheran faith.

He is survived by his wife, Rosanne Turk of Loveland; sons, Gordon, Darin and Derek Turk of Loveland and Doug Zancanelli of Rifle, Colorado; grandchildren, Krista, Logan, Tyler, Kylie, Teagan, Meghan and Zac. He is also survived by his brother, Edward E.Turk of Underwood, Iowa; sisters, Virgilene Koenig of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Connie Wise of Avoca, Iowa and Karen Larson of McClelland, Iowa; sister-in-law, Patty Turk of Council Bluffs, Iowa; brother in-law, Donald Parish of Underwood, Iowa and aunt, Bernice Woltmann of Avoca, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wayne and Larry Turk; two sisters, Beverly Turk and LaDonna Parish and his grandparents, August and Bertha (Tradel) Turk of Minden, Iowa and Carl and Elsie (Dollan) Kubelck of Shelby, Iowa.

Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 2 at Kibbey Fishburn Funeral Home. Visitation will take place 3-5 p.m. today and Saturday prior to services. Internment: Loveland Burial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Larimer County in care of Kibbey Fishburn Funeral Home.
