Richard D. Franks

Richard D. Franks, 71, of Council Bluffs died March 3 at home.

He was born June 2, 1931, in Council Bluffs to Edward L. and Winifred (McKeown) Franks. He worked in the maintenance department of Fruehauf for 27 years. Prior to that he had almost 10 years of service with Union Pacific Railroad. He was a member of Auto Labor Union and Local No. 699.

Mr. Franks and his wife, Eleanor J. (Anderson), were married July 3, 1969.

Survivors in addition to his wife include four daughters, Amy Thalmueller and husband, Jim, and Sandra Melton and husband, Terry, all of Lakeview, Ark., Martha Collins and husband, Danny, of San Antonio and Sandra North of Council Bluffs; a son, Chris Franks, of Council Bluffs; a brother, Willard LeRoy Franks, and wife, Ellen, of Council Bluffs; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Michael Stevens officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Burial of ashes will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Walnut Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Lowell Knauss officiating.

Memorials may be offered to Visiting Nurses of Council Bluffs or Alegent Health Homecare and Hospice.
