In Memory: Frank Hovey Jr.

Funeral for Frank W. Hovey, Jr., 76, of Council Bluffs was held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Cutler Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Aaron Simons officiating.

Mr. Hovey died August 25 at his residence. He was born October 12, 1923 in Council Bluffs to Frank W. Hovey Sr. and Beatrice V. (Bunting) Hovey. In 1941 he graduated from Underwood' High School. He had lived in Council Bluffs since 1941.

Mr. Hovey worked as a mechanic in the maintenance department for Union Pacific Fruit Express, retiring in 1985 with 28 years service. He then went on to work at A. I. Root for 11 years as a maintenance supervisor.

He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Country Church, Elks Lodge No. 531 and was a Charter Member of Iowa West Racing Association.

On April 15, 1945 he married Marjorie A. Jensen in Council Bluffs. They were married 55 years.

Survivors in addition to his wife include a daughter, Susan Nelson of Council Bluffs and a son, Allan and wife, Maggie, of Papillion, Nebraska; three sisters, Kathryn Penry, Jayne A. Vagota and Janette Masker and husband, Richard, all of Omaha; nine grandchildren,, six great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family was held Monday evening at the funeral home. Burial, with graveside services by Elks Lodge No. 531, was in Cedar Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be offered to the American Cancer Society.
