In Memory: L. Earl Briggs

L. Earl Briggs, 80, a former resident of Carson and Minden, died Tuesday, December 26 at the Indian Hills Nursing Center in Council Bluffs.

He was born near McClelland, Iowa, the son of Albert and Marie Briggs and attended country schools. He joined the U.S. Air Force in May of 1942 and was given a medical discharge in 1943.

Earl started as a farm laborer and then farmed near Carson and Minden until ill health forced him to move to Council Bluffs. He worked in real estate and for Mutual of New York Insurance until his retirement in 1985.

He was a member of the Minden United Church of Christ, a lifetime member of American Legion Post #437 and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Bert Edd, Bill and Robert; one granddaughter, Andrina Swenson; and one grandson Richard Clark.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Beatrice E. Briggs; three daughters, Sheryl and her husband Dave Roberts of Keller, Texas, Janelle and her husband Paul Swenson of Oskaloosa, and Rhonda and her husband Gary Mousel of Omaha; a sister, Mary Applegate of Oakland; a brother Lyle and his wife Martha of Omaha; three sister-in-law, Margaret Blankenship, Lucille Briggs and Leta Hoagland; 4 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, aunts and friend.

Visitation with the family will be Thursday evening from 7-8 p.m. at Cutler Funeral Home in Council Bluffs and the funeral service will be held Friday, December 29 at 1 p.m. at the Cutler Funeral Home Chapel.

Memorials may be offered to the Minden United Church of Christ or the Alzheimer's Association.
